Is the Birth Control Pill Right for You?
Contraception adherence is disappointing even when provided at no cost!
The Contraceptive Choice Project in St Louis followed women between the ages of 14 and 45 after providing them with free contraceptives in the form of a birth control pill, patch, or ring. 39% of women refilled their prescriptions more than a week late on two separate occasions during an 18 month follow up (which can result in ineffective contraception). The poor compliance was not affected by the method of contraceptive (pill, patch, or ring), age or marital status. It is estimated that upwards of ½ million unintended pregnancies could be avoided with proper birth control use.
