Recurrent Miscarriage: Logic defies statistics
One of the most concerning events for a young woman is that of miscarriage. Losing a pregnancy is not only emotionally devastating, but raises questions of ever successfully having a child.
Studies indicate that the incidence of a recurrent miscarriage does not significantly increase until a patient has had more than 2 consecutive miscarriages. This is an interesting statistic, but what about the patient who is in her mid 30’s, whose window of fertility is reduced , and who may not logistically have time to go through 3 miscarriages before undergoing a proper work up and treatment? What about the emotional stress of miscarriage resulting in the patient’s reluctance to conceive again?
