I’m Pregnant!!!!!!! Should I stop my antidepressant?
The decision to continue antidepressants during pregnancy is very difficult. Making the proper decision not only requires thorough examination of the benefits and risks but a great deal of introspection on the part of the patient.
Since the introduction of the newer class of antidepressants called Selective Serotonin uptake inhibiters (SSRI), which have substantially less side effects than their older predecessors, they are being prescribed more readily by primary care physicians. Because of their effectiveness, along with minimal side effects, many of the patients are taking them without participating in formal counseling.
