Depression is at epidemic levels in our country today. It is one of the leading causes of disability and it can be devastating to those suffering with it as well as to those around them. In our instant-gratification culture, many experiencing depression turn to their doctors for medication, hoping for a quick fix. There are a number of antidepressants available today and many of the newer formulas are very effective, working very quickly, with few side effects. While it is true that these medications can be very helpful, and even necessary in some cases, they are no miracle cure. In fact, some people suffering from depression find limited relief from symptoms with medication alone. Research shows that the most effective treatment includes some form of counseling or psychotherapy.
